Piano & keyboard lessons at Shoreview School of Music
-
Most students are ready to begin piano lessons around age 5 or 6. At this age, children can typically focus during lessons, follow directions and begin developing basic rhythm and coordination skills. Our instructors tailor each lesson to the student’s age, experience level and learning style to create a positive and engaging experience.
-
Students should have access to a piano or keyboard for regular practice between lessons. An 88-key weighted keyboard is recommended for the best learning experience, but beginners can often start with a smaller keyboard while building foundational skills. We offer beginner instruments for sale in our shop.

Short, consistent practice sessions are more effective than occasional long sessions. Beginners typically benefit from practicing 15 to 30 minutes per day several times per week. As students advance, practice times may increase depending on goals and experience level.
-
Private piano lessons provide individualized instruction and personalized feedback, allowing students to progress at their own pace. Group experiences and performance opportunities can also be valuable for building confidence and musical collaboration. Many students benefit from a combination of both.
-
