Drum lessons at Shoreview School of Music
-
Most students can start drum lessons around age 6 or 7. At this stage, students can follow rhythm patterns, coordinate hands and feet, and stay engaged during lessons. We also teach teens and adults at all skill levels.
-
A full drum kit is helpful but not required to start. Beginners can begin with a practice pad and sticks. As students progress, we recommend either an acoustic drum set or a digital electronic drum kit for at-home practice. We can help guide families on the best option.
-
We do not sell full drum kits, but we do offer drum accessories and practice pads through our shop. Students can purchase essentials like drumsticks, practice pads, and beginner materials. We also help families choose the right setup for at-home practice, whether that is a practice pad, electronic kit, or acoustic kit purchased elsewhere.

Drum lessons are offered through a monthly membership plan. Tuition is averaged over the year so families pay the same amount each month. This keeps scheduling consistent and reserves your weekly lesson time year-round.

We teach a wide range of styles including rock, pop, jazz, funk, and modern contemporary drumming. Lessons are tailored to the student’s interests so they stay engaged and motivated.
-
Not necessarily. Beginners can practice on a practice pad or electronic drum kit with headphones. These options allow students to develop skills without excessive noise, making it easier to practice at home.
-
Most beginners can play basic beats within a few lessons. With consistent practice, students quickly build coordination and timing. Long-term progress depends on practice habits, lesson consistency, and goals.
-
Private drum lessons provide focused, personalized instruction that helps students progress faster. Some students also benefit from group performance opportunities that build confidence and timing with other musicians.
